Ridley Scott updates on Blade Runner and Prometheus sequels

Says both films are written

Ridley Scott has been discussing progress on sci-fi sequels to Blade Runner and Prometheus, and has revealed that both projects are further along than might be expected.

Blade Runner 2 is written and is damn good,” says Scott. “Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years - despite the accident. So yes, that will happen.”

Scott went on to confirm that the plan is for him to direct the film, and that he hopes to begin work on the film as soon as he is done with next project, The Martian.

As to whether he will also direct Prometheus 2, it could be an issue that comes down to scheduling. “That’s the problem,” he admits. “I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written.”

We wouldn’t be surprised to see him hand over the directorial reins to somebody else for Prometheus 2, but the good news is that with both films written, we should see another Scott-influenced sci-fi sooner rather than later…

Which sequel would you rather see Scott direct? Tell us, below!

I would prefer an update on when he is going to retire before he destroys his cinematic legacy....

“Blade Runner 2 is written and is damn good”. Oh yeah? As damn good as Prometheus? Could he possibly squeeze more plot holes and stupid behaviour into a script?

"Is damn good". Hardly expecting him to say it's a crock of sh1t.

So much negativity. They made a reboot of Robocop, and guess what? The original still exists and it's still awesome. Also, the sequels still suck. Cinema history is not so easily destroyed! Let the guy make his movies.

Ridley Scott only makes one great film a decade fact. The 70's was Alien, the 80's was Blade Runner, the 90's was Gladiator (give or take a few months) and 00's was Black Hawk Down. The rest of his directorial efforts sit firmly in the average-to-sh*t bag for me - White Squall, G.I. Jane, Hannibal, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, Body Of Lies, Robin Hood, Prometheus, The Counsellor. The last few in particular have been very poor indeed. This will either be the one good film he makes this decade, or it'll pretty much finish his career. i still struggle to understand how people label him as one of the 'best' directors in history. Personally i think his brother Tony had a much better CV of films.

Can't believe the negativity on display here. Sir Ridley Scott is quite simply, one of the finest directors the world of cinema has ever seen. Has he made films that people don't like? Of course. He's human after all, but please show a little respect. Comments like "can eat a bowl " are not acceptable, just because you're hiding behind your laptop. Me? I never really rated a single Kubrick film, but neither have I ever insulted him. Just saying.

Never have I left a cinema with such disappointment as I did with Prometheus, probably because I was expecting so much from Ridley. He is a great director and has made some fantastic films so lets hope Prometheus 2 makes up for the disappointment of the first one. As for Blade Runner, does it really need a sequel?

People are also forgetting The Counselor. Ridley had an A-list cast and Cormac McCarthy at his disposal yet he produced a train wreck of a movie. I really do think he's lost that edge.

@chibik: The Robocop reboot didn't affect the original, they're two different takes on the same story, each one valid in its own right But Prometheus added some garbled nonsense to the Alien universe. Tried to explain stuff that was much better when it was left to imagination and ruined the memory of the first Alien film. And @davidyoung: Sir Ridley Scott WAS quite simply, one of the finest directors the world of cinema has ever seen. Nowadays he's just trying to sabotage his legacy.
