Rob Cohen going Medieval on us

Xander Cage will have to find a new helmer

Looks like Rob Cohen won’t be returning to the franchise he helped create – at least, not yet. He’s backed out of the new XXX film in favour of Medieval.

New Regency has hired him to apply his, er, particular talents to what Cohen is describing as The Magnificent Seven in the Middle Ages.

Because no one has ever tried to make a version of that film set in a different time period before. Oh, hang on…

There’s no proper word on the script, according to Variety, but apparently the pic’s set pieces will feature “warriors from disparate cultures.”

“"It was a tough decision about XXX, " Cohen said. "I talked to Vin over the weekend and said I hoped they would wait, but that if they find another director who's right for the sequel, I certainly wouldn't be angry.

“But I could not let something like this go."

He’s studied European History at Harvard, so he knows the Medieval world, but then he knew a lot about china and The Mummy 3 was still dodgy.
