Rob Zombie directing The Lords Of Salem

Won’t be taking on another Blob remake

The Witches

Rob Zombie has revealed that he won’t be continuing down Remake Road with a re-do of The Blob, instead making his next movie The Lords Of Salem.

Moving away from both slasher and remake territory (Zombie, of course, directed the Halloween remake in 2007 and its sequel), Lords Of Salem will find the director taking on demonic witches.

“I wanted to break away from anything related to pre-existing material,” Zombie tells Deadline of his decision to pass on The Blob (which already received a superior make-over in 1988).

“The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable.

“But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn’t go through that again.”

Which will no doubt have Zombie fans cheering – especially when they find out that Salem will be set in the town of the same name, where the current residents receive a “demonic visit” from a 300-year-old witch coven.

Zombie is penning the script himself, and plans to shoot sometime next year.

BooBoo1981, I disagree. Whilst House of 1000 Corpses (was that its name?) wasn't great it had its moments - and Sid Haig was brilliant! The Devil's Rejects on the other hand was quite competent, made more in the grimy grisly 70s exploitation vein. No, Im interested in seeing what he will do with this.
