Roberto Orci teases Star Trek 3 plot details

Next adventure will be set in deep space

Roberto Orci has been teasing what we can expect from Star Trek 3, with the director explaining that the characters in the new film will be closer to the incarnations we know from the original series.

"In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started," says Orci. "The first two films – especially the 2009 film – was an origin story. It was about them coming together."

"So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series," continues the director. "They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie."

"So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission, so their adventure is going to be in deep space."

Nothing has been given away as to who the villains might be yet, so feel free to speculate away in the comments below. Directed by Orci, Star Trek 3 will open in 2016, with a specific release date to be confirmed.

Who would you like to see on villain duties in the new film? Tell us, below!

Well, actually they are going to be very different than the original series. Kirk now has coursing through his veins the blood of Khan, making him a lot different. And Bones has more of that blood... who else will get it? How will the Federation look at Kirk now? Will Section 31 take a closer interest in Kirk based on how Khan was treated/reacted? It may be convenient to forget about all that, but the fact is the "microscope" would be there.
