After adapting a classic piece of literature in Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, Roman Polanski is headed just a little bit pulpier for his next directing job.
The filmmaker is working alongside writer Robert Harris to adapt Harris’ The Ghost into a political thriller. It follows a ghostwriter who lands the job of finishing the memoirs of an ex-prime minister. But when he starts digging into the man’s past, he uncovers dodgy secrets that put his life in danger.
It’s something to full the time since Polanski dropped out of making the $100 million epic Pompeii, and leapt on The Ghost because he couldn’t stop reading it. "I have been looking for a political thriller to direct for some time, and The Ghost could not be more perfect," Polanski blabbed to Variety. "Robert has constructed a novel with such suspense, it is hard to put it down."
Don’t go expecting it any time soon though – he doesn’t plan to start filming until next autumn.
