Rumour: Bryan Cranston cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2

The Breaking Bad man's reportedly Superman's nemesis

While Warner Bros and DC are yet to officially confirm the news, insider sources are suggesting that Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2 / Batman vs Superman.

The Breaking Bad star has been a fan-favourite dream casting since Man of Steel was announced, but now Cosmic Book News is reporting that the deal is done, and that Cranston has signed on for a six movie deal.

The news will allegedly be made official following the end of the critically acclaimed drama, and will pave the way for a movie role that will see the folically averse star pop up in a number of DC movies ("think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to The Avengers").

Cranston himself has already shown interest in the role, and his comments certainly seem to suggest he has a handle on the man behind the megalomania.

Until Warner Bros or Cranston himself come out and confirm the news, we're still a little dubious - but it's certainly exciting speculation.

Six movies, why does Lex have to appear so much, yes he's iconic but come on there's is better villains for the Justice League

Now there's a prime example of imaginative Hollywood casting: "Let's think of some guy who's shaved his head recently." Fortunately I think he'll be very good, but it's depressing that wishlists on sites like Digital Spy were comprised almost entirely of actors who'd played a bald guy once.

@Marvelboy: It doesnt mean he will appear in six films. Surely thats a standard contract with all franchise movies.

If this casting is true, I don't really have a problem with it. Other than he's a fair bit older than most of the cast and I imagined Luthor to be younger I guess. I'd have actually preferred Mark Strong, he fits the bill more in my head (going on the DC animated efforts anyway). Hell, just get Clancy Brown to shave his head. That'd be awesome ;D

BobTheSKull...Mark Strong would be a good Lex, but would be too close to his comicbook villain in 'Kick Bottom' . In a perfect world, it would be MIchael Ironside.

Michael Ironside?! that is an EXCELLENT suggestion. I really liked Kevin Spacey as Lex too

I have a feeling Warner Bros might cast Cranston to appease the fans who aren't happy with the choice of Affleck. Personally I think Brian would make a better Jim Gordon.

Ironside would be even worse than Cranston. While both good actors Supes and Lex are roughly the same age, so having a 30something Supes and 60something Lex seem irresponsible.

Eh I don't see the age difference as much of a big deal, it's not like Lex is going to be throwing down with Supe.
