Rumour: Disney planning Boba Fett spinoff film?

Lawrence Kasdan reportedly writing the script

Boba Fett could be one of the Star Wars characters set to receive the spin-off treatment, with director Jon Schnepp claiming to have the inside track on Disney’s upcoming plans.

The Metalocalypse director was speaking to AMC Movie News when he was asked about the spin-off projects planned by Disney as part of its ongoing Star Wars strategy.

“One of them is Boba Fett,” claimed Schnepp. “It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.”

Official confirmation of the spin-off plans was disseminated by Disney last February, when the studio confirmed it would be working on a number of standalone movies as well as the primary Star Wars series, to be continued with Episode VII.

Whether Schnepp is blowing hot air remains to be seen, but given the popularity of Boba Fett within the fandom, it’s certainly not an outlandish suggestion.

In the meantime, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.

Bringing Kasdan on to write the scripts is a smart move. I do worry about a Boba Fett movie cause there's no way they won't take off his helmet, and for me at least Fett's mysteriousness is part of his appeal.

I would say a Boba Fett spin off is not just likely, but practically a certainty. We'll undoubtedly also see a Yoda film, and a Han & Chewie film (also featuring Lando). A Yoda film would be great though, as they could go back 800-900 years into a time we've never seen on screen before (although i'm sure there's a shedload of comics, books, etc about it).
