Rumour: Don Cheadle to appear in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Rhodey returns

The Avengers: Age Of Ultron may be about to pluck another supporting player from one of its subsidiary franchises, with Don Cheadle’s War Machine said to be appearing in the new film.

HitFix reports that Cheadle will have a significant part to play in the sequel, with his character having “a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel.”

The report goes on to suggest that “major changes” are coming for the Avengers, so could Rhodes be about to make a play for a permanent spot in the lineup?

Cheadle was on excellent form in his recent Iron Man 3 outing, using his comic timing to excellent effect in a number of buddy-movie scenes with Robert Downey Jr. More of the same would be very welcome indeed...

Directed by Joss Whedon and introducing new additions Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 1 May 2015.

Would you like to see Cheadle join the gang for the sequel? Tell us, below!

What is the point to have this lack-lustre character in the line up?

The whole idea for the Avengers is Earths Mightiest Heroes, a hand selected group of heroes however the Cinematic universe is lining up be just anyone who's a superhero and because people asked why he didn't turn up for the party in Avengers, even though there was a line that said "the army are an hour out" and whos to say that War Machine wasn't on a mission in a different country.

Actually @marvelboy, the whole idea of The Avengers is of a group of heroes that band together when a villian is too powerful or a situation is too much for only one of them to deal with, they're not hand selected, quite often it's however's available. Over time, they have been branded "Earth's Mightest Hereoes" due to their success and yes having heroes such as Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Hercules, Wonder Man, Captain Marvel on their roster. Sometimes though, their membership includes lower-powered heroes as well (Black Panther, Tigra) but as a group they can overcome pretty much anything. And, if your name implies, you know your Marvel stuff, you'll know that Rhodey was in the Iron Man armour when The West Coast Avengers were founded and became a full member as War Machine, so having him join or in some way be a part of it, I think works :-) Plus if the rumours are true and Ultron is a result of the government getting ahold of Stark A.I. tech and it all going wrong, well, Rhodey is military and the wearer of Iron Patriot (the only armour left at the end of Iron Man 3) so it makes sense to include him really. As for Avengers 1 and his absense, there's a comic-book tie-in which explains what Rhodey was up to during the New York battle. He wasn't even in the country, but got notified by the army of what was going on and headed back to the States as quickly as he could. He got there just in time to meet the group as they ate Schwarma ... it also features Tony upgrading Rhodey's suit before the Iron Patriot paint-job :-) It's only 2 issues and worth a read. It's called Iron Man 3 Prelude

I get the feeling that he gets killed in this movie since there won't be another Iron Man with Downey Jr. I mean... someone has to die in battle apart from the regular henchmen and villains right?

Welcome news, gotta say I'm a big fan of Rhodey. I hope it is the War Machine and not Iron Patriot though!

I read on DOG that it will be as War Machine ... let's face it Rhodey will want to distance himself after the events of Iron Man 3, I doubt the Patriot colour-scheme will be seen again any time soon :)
