Well we did not see this coming.
Deadline reports that Looper director Rian Johnson is set to write and direct the next two Star Wars movies.
While Lucasfilm are yet to officially confirm, Deadline states that Johnson will be taking the reins from JJ Abrams, who's currently working on crafting Star Wars: Episode VII.
If the news is true, it's certainly in line with Disney and Lucasfilm's other surprising director announcements of late, trusting young, buzzed about and interesting directors such Chronicle's Josh Trank and Godzilla's Gareth Edwards with spin-off projects.
Johnson is also known for writing and directing indie noir Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and directing episodes of Breaking Bad.
