Rumour: Sarah Gadon to join The Amazing Spider-Man franchise?

A potential replacement for Shailene Woodley?

A bit of casting gossip for you this morning regarding the Amazing Spider-Man series, with ET Canada claiming that Sarah Gadon is about to join the franchise.

The source claims that the news comes straight from Gadon herself, although no further details are provided as to who she’ll be playing or at what point in the series she’ll be joining.

The rumour comes hot on the heels of news that Shailene Woodley has dropped out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with reports claiming she will not return to the series further down the track.

Could it be then that Gadon has been tapped as a potential replacement for Woodley in the role of Mary-Jane Watson? The timing would certainly seem to support that theory…

Hopefully we’ll find out more in the coming weeks. Directed by Marc Webb and co-starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in the UK on 18 April 2014.

She looks like Felicia Hardy not MJ.

Cue the incessant fanboy whining of her not being a real redhead...... personally, I think Woodley looked like she'd have been a great MJ.

Well I really don't see why they can't cast a redhead when it's a key part of the character. Besides it ain't like there aren't any out there.

Would you rather have a redhead that can't act, or an actress that is capable of doing the role justice who would need to dye her hair? Besides, just because they are there doesn't mean they want to be in it.

I would rather see an actress that can act and dyes her hair, although theres always Scarlett Johannsson who can't act for sh/t as Black Widow.

I would rather casting directors do their jobs and look for redheads who will do the character justice. We had a dye job before and it didn't work.

Yeah, you're right... dye jobs never work, cos if you're blonde you can't play what a brunette is really like... redheads can't play blondes cos they just don't 'get it'... and don't get me started on brunettes playing people with red hair! Gods, that NEVER works!! Guess you must have been p****d at the casting directors for casting a 29 year old as a teenager then? Or at Larry Fishburne being cast as Perry White, or how about an Englishman being cast as 'America's Big Blue Boy Scout'? Casting Directors do their jobs right when they cast someone who plays the role well, not because of their hair/skin colour or ethnic background.

Andrew was 27 when he was cast as Parker ;-) It just strikes me of sheer laziness that these casting directors can't find a natural redhead when there are plenty of talented and attractive actresses around at the moment. For example why not try Rachael Evan Wood.

Ali1784. Just wondering what your thoughts are on casting actors born in a different country to the character they are playing. We've now had a British Batman and Superman. Granted some of your comments are dripping with sarcasm but you don't seem to like the idea of an actors appearance being different to the source material. Might just be me but I don't see why when casting a film you would limit your choices like that. Putting on a different accent seems like it would be a lot more work than a bit of hair dye. Also, in keeping with the comic book film theme, who would you cast as Modok? (And remember, Michael Shannon is already Zod so he's not aloud)

I am not that strict when it comes to staying close to the source material I'd just like to see them consider a natural redhead that's all. As for Modok lol erm Peter Dinklage.
