Rumour: Star Wars Episode VII to pick up with Luke, Han and Leia’s kids?

Star Wars: The Next Generation?

Ever since Star Wars: Episode VII was officially announced, the rumour mill has been in overdrive as to what direction the new trilogy of movies will take.

So far we’ve been led to believe that the films will follow on from the original trilogy in terms of timeframe, and now the latest rumour is that the story will follow the children of Luke, Leia and Han.

Thus, the events won’t follow on immediately from the end of Return Of The Jedi, but will be set some years down the track. And apparently, all our favourite characters have been very busy indeed.

Does this mean that Harrison Ford has re-signed to play a disapproving dad, or will Han be the kind of irresponsible pop who leaves his blaster lying around? Or is the whole thing nonsense? We just don’t know for sure.

Hopefully J.J. Abrams will let some more concrete details slip sooner rather than later. Until that happens, we’ll just have to keep speculating until the film arrives in 2015.

What do you think of the latest plot theory? Tell us, below!

If any of the original cast (bar C3po, R2 Chewie) were to be in it, then I think the only direction is for them to be in it is if they are parents.....could be interesting.....will Mara Jade be in it? and will she have a spin off? could be interesting

SW is about the family, so it makes complete sense to continue their saga. It could be fun to see the wrinklies having fun with a sabre again and of course CP30 and R2 HAVE to be in their also

Trouble is - Ford is a miserable old fart, these days. He struggled to recapture the fun of Indy, so unless they make Solo a Rick Blaine style cynic, it's not gonna work.

You can imagine the trailer already. Shots of Luke's child slowly lifting little metal toy blocks, han's kids running around with blasters with friends. I think it is the logical choice, definitely completes the series and turns up the emotion. It will also be good to see a Jedi with parents who are alive.

Totally agree with LSJShez - Ford just isn't the same person he was 30yrs ago so anyone expecting him to slip straight back into Han Solo mode is gonna be sadly let down. Take Marion Ravenwood in Indy 4 - nowhere near the same character she was in Raiders. She was a tough, strong willed character who turned into a whinging, sidekick in Indy 4. She just didn't look right. And i fear that's exactly what will happen bringing back all the old actors in star Wars. If people accept their characters will be older, wiser and much less like the fearless kids they were back then, it may just work.

Could be good to give Han and Leia 3 children. Twins and one other child and one of them goes to the dark side. Then you have a next generation, family conflict and a good dynamic with enough characters to move the story forwards into 3 other films.

Well, since Star Wars is all about continuity, and there have been a bunch of books and comics written that so far lay out 45 years of history for the original trilogy characters after Episode VI, it can only be about 2 kids: Luke's son Ben Skywalker, and the only surviving Solo child, Jaina Solo (Han and Leia's other 2 kids are dead, Jacen fell to the dark side and was killed and Anakin, who stayed good, died as well.) Both Ben and Jaina are Jedi, with Jaina being an exceptionally well know Jedi hero. So with the age of Fisher, Hamill, and Ford, the movie would pretty much have to take place after the current books, unless they throw out all that storytelling that's been canon for 20+ years. Which would mean Ben and Jaina are the only surviving kids and Luke's wife Mara Jade is dead. It'd make for some pretty great family issues to fill the drama between epic space battles and lightsaber duels.

Problem with that, jhhinshaw, is that the majority of people who've seen the films probably won't have read the books.

Lucas never accepted the side stories as canon anyhow. Star Wars is a film series first, book series second. Best to just forget them and start afresh, with or without Lucas input.
