Rumour: Warner Bros wanted Ben Affleck to play Batman in Justice League

Apparently he was approached to direct and star

Justice League can’t get itself out of the news of late. What with Mark Millar discussing the problems of the team-up, and the script reportedly in trouble, it seems as though everyone'S talking about it.

That includes El Mayimbe of Latino Review, a frequent source of rumours that have a decent track record of proving to be true.

He recently tweeted that when Ben Affleck was approached to direct Justice League, Warner Bros actually wanted him to star in it, as Batman.

Affleck wouldn’t have any trouble with the handsome playboy facet of the character, and he has a suitably lantern-esque jaw for rocking the necessary cowl, but he’d be breaking the unspoken rule about having two different superheroes on one CV, from rival publishing houses at that.

Then again, Ryan Reynolds has already sneered at that rule, playing DC Comics’ Green Lantern after having done Marvel’s Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And with J.J. Abrams going from Star Trek to Wars, we could be entering a new Wild West in terms of franchise loyalty.

Affleck’s obviously confident directing himself, and has moved up through ever more ambitious projects since his megaphone-wielding debut on Gone Baby Gone. His take on the superhero genre would be an intriguing prospect, especially if he directed himself (which, as far as we can work out, has never happened on a superhero flick before - alert us in the comments section if you can think of any examples).

For now, we’ll just have to dump this on the pile with the rest of Hollywood’s ‘What if?’ projects.

Justice League is expected to open in 2015.

Would you be up for seeing Affleck play Batman? Or would you find his involvement jarring? Tell us below…

What about Chris Evans, surely the highest profile actor to play two superheroes (Human Torch / Captain America), from the same universe of course!

The problem is, Marvel came up with back stories for everyone, Besides The Hulk, Which I personally think, Mark Ruffalo, played took on and played the character of Bruce Banner superbly, From the Rumours DC aren't going to be doing this. Affleck would be a good Batman but I don't want to see him for the first time in the suit in JL. Yes there is Superman This year and Green Lantern a few years back, but it's no fluid. I Think they Need to push back JL by 3 years and work on a solid back story and have a new Batman, Green Lantern, Possibly a wonder Woman and have a sequel to Superman that can lead into the JL film. DC are just trying to capitalise on the new generation of Comic Book fans that have made Marvel so successful and I personally don't think 'Plot wise' it will work

Daredevil was a long time ago, Affleck has grown as an actor and a person since then.

You can't blame affleck for daredevil the film was badly handled all round, but I don't think he'll do another superhero film cause he knows the critics would be lining up to jump all over it

i dont think he will do these kind of juvenile entertainers anymore. i dont think he is interested in typical hollywood blockbusters anymore. his choice in subjects he is directing suggests so up till now, but his next few projects seem to be acting ones, so we will know more in the forthcoming days! but i like this new turn his career has taken, he should stick to it and be part of meaningful cinema, not just in direction but also in his acting projects! n i am just absolutely dying to see him n matt damon in one of his directions. his credentials have improved greatly in the last few years!

The guy makes one great movie and you think that makes him qualified to direct a Super-Hero movie and play the most iconic super-hero? The guy still has awful acting chops, he was the worst actor in 'The Town' which means to me that he has not proven himself as an actor. Doesn't it say something if the only directors that would work with him are himself and Kevin 'I-haven't-made-a-good-movie-ever' Smith. Warner Bros is just full of bad ideas, at least they dropped Will Beall's because it was extremely bad choice to even give him a shot. But back to the original point, Affleck is the one of the worse choices for Batman and everybody should stop sucking his d.
