Looks like Russell Brand’s attempt to take over Dudley Moore’s most famous film role is moving along… Warners has hired Borat co-writer Peter Baynham to bash out a script.
While we’re still split on the idea of Brand as Arthur – one the one hand, this seems to be an ideal role for his lascivious, lush character type, but on the other, Arthur is a great comedy that needs no remake – it’s now closer to happening.
And Baynham is definitely a solid comedy writer – in addition to Borat, he’s written and appeared on the likes of The Day Today, I’m Alan Partridge and Brass Eye.

We don’t yet know how the film will be tweaked – the original saw Moore’s boozy playboy who derails his high society marriage plans by falling for the broke Linda (Liza Minelli) – but we’re guessing that the drinking element will stay firmly in place.
Brand, meanwhile, is continuing his role as Aldous Snow from Forgetting Sarah Marshall – he should be shooting Get Me To The Greek some time this year.
