Russell Mulcahy hunts Vampires

Highlander helmer tackles an undead thriller

He’s just stormed to box office success with the third Resident Evil franchise entry and now director Russell Mulcahy is taking aim at a different faction of the undead.

He’s signed on to direct an adaptation of Steven-Elliot Altman’s novel Zen In The Art Of Slaying Vampires.

It sounds like one of those cheap, cash-In Buffy books, but it’s actually the first in a three-book series about a man who turned into a vampire when he and his girlfriend are attacked in New York. She never recovers, and he’s faced with the fact that he now has an incredible craving for living blood and a slight problem with tanning. But then he starts to suppress his newly found murderous, bloodthirsty instincts, and a struggle heats up for his soul between his blood brothers and Zen masters. “I liked the pathos of the lead characters and the way it is wrapped in a world of mythology,” Mulcahy blabbed to Variety.

There’s no word on when shooting will start, as Altman is only just writing the script. Fang fans stay tuned…
