Ryan Reynolds updates on Deadpool movie

Says it’s gradually getting closer to reality

A standalone Deadpool movie has seemingly been in the pipeline for all eternity, but according to star Ryan Reynolds, the project is still inching its way closer to realisation.

“[In] its current iteration the movie’s actually very small,” says Reynolds to Yahoo! Movies. “There’s minimal impact to the studio, which is the way we’re kind of presenting it to them. We’re saying ‘Look, the budget is minimal. Therefore, can we do this the way it should be done?’

“Unfortunately it needs to be rated R. The script is probably available online, it leaked. But it’s very meta, I mean the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, it’s kind of a risky property.”

“It’s actually, within the last couple of weeks, taken a few very, very small tiptoes forward."

When asked if we're likely to ever see the movie, Reynolds responded, "Yeah, I think so. I think if I were a betting man it’ll get made, eventually. I mean it’s just been developed to high heaven. It has great people around it, so we’ll see.”

With the character set to poke fun at specifically-named board members, we can see why Fox might be a little hesitant to splash the cash on this one, but with an X-Force movie already confirmed on the studio slate, don’t rule it out just yet…

This is the one movie, that IF done properly, that would blow all else out of the water.

Reynolds desperately needs this Deadpool movie to happen, his career is nose diving as we speak.

"But it’s very meta, I mean the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script." -- Am I alone in thinking that sounds an absolutely dreadful idea? I seriously hope this does not get made.

Desperation, no you arent alone, i'm wondering if they have no choice but to do it as a kind of (KIND OF) comedy in the Naked Gun style. Otherwise yes, to me it sounds dire and almost certainly a loss maker given the silly budget it would undoubtedly get.

You all make good points but if this is going to Rated R (in other words 18) - than the people watching will be people who understand that Deadpool is a killing machine that has serious mental issues and yeah one of those issues is that he is aware he lives in a comic book, it works in everything else deadpool is in and he's not over the top about it's just subtle hints here and there - I back this movie all the way

You guys have clearly never read a Deadpool comic. It's because he constantly breaks the fourth wall and is aware of where and what he is, that the comic book has been so popular over the last 30 years. Look at it this way, it would be unique in the super hero film world, it would be very funny and if done right, either a 15 or 18-rated film (Deadpool comics are full of death and gore) and again would break the current 12A-mould of superhero filcks, surely something to be embraced? :)

Desperation and 2D - Deadpool frequently does that in the comic books, it's one of the reasons why he's so popular.
