Despite mentioning previously that he still hasn’t definitely committed to making graphic novel adaptation Preacher, Sam Mendes still seems very much involved
Talking to MTV, he says that the script it in progress with Big Fish writer John August on keyboard duty. ““He’s doing pretty well. He’s about halfway through. There’s a long way to go yet, but I’m very, very hopeful. I think it could be amazing.”
The film, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s superb series, is still in the very early stages.
But it sounds like Mendes is ever closer to sticking with the movie – even to the point of discussing the fact that it could eventually be a franchise.
“You have to try and get one really good and then, if you’re lucky, you can make a second or a third,” he says.
“You can create something that’s going to run. But I think that there’s certainly more than enough for one good movie and plenty left over.”
Let’s hope the first movie’s good enough to warrant it, eh?

Are you looking forward to a Mendes-flavoured Preacher? Or do you think there are other directors who should get a crack?
