Sam Raimi nears The Given Day

He’s developing Dennis Lehane’s new novel…

With the Spider-Man franchise still cooking away deep in the development cauldrons of Sony, Sam Raimi has been lining up other projects to fill his creative void while he ponders whether he’ll direct another outing for the web-slinger.

The latest is developing Mystic River/Gone Baby Gone scribe Dennis Lehane’s new book (so new it’s not even out until September) into a film The Given Day is set in 1919, and sees Boston in chaos as returning World War One soldiers bring Spanish flu back into the city and the police department descends into strike-afflicted turmoil. Variety is taking down the story details.
