Sam Worthington in talks for The Tourist

He may replace Tom Cruise

Sam Worthington is pondering the lead role in The Tourist, alongside Charlize Theron.

A remake of 2005's Anthony Zimmer, it finds an Interpol agent (Theron) who uses an American tourist (Worthington) as part of a mission to track down a tricky criminal who also happens to be one of her former lovers.

If Worthington signs on, he'll be taking a role that Tom Cruise had been flirting with before switching to James Mangold's comedy that will see him re-team with Cameron Diaz.

Bharat Nalluri is planning to start shooting the film early next year.
