Scarlett Johansson was too sexy for Fincher's Dragon Tattoo

"You can't wait for her to take her clothes off"

Director David Fincher says Scarlett Johansson was too sexy to play Lisbeth Salander in his remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

"The thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off,” Fincher said.

To put that into context (and to make it sound a bit less weird), we think Fincher was trying to say that the character has to be boyish and vulnerable before she shows her other side.

Let's try that again...

“Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher told Vogue.

“Salander should be like E.T.,” he added. “If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, 'What is this little squishy thing?' Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese's Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that.”

OK, he made it weird again.

Is ScarJo too sexy to be Lisbeth? Is Rooney Mara the right choice? Keep your comments as clean as possible below!

@ChrisWootton ...and yet, strangely, I couldn't care less! I could watch her bounce on a trampoline for hours...

Yeah, I agree... she's firmly in the Aniston / Knightley box of A-listers who look good but play the same character in EVERYTHING.

I'm sorry, but she is not a horrible actress. There are much worse then her. She was great opposite Thora Birch in Ghostworld, and also had awesome roles in Lost in Translation, Girl With A Pearl Earring and The Black Dahlia, her characters aren't always the same. That girl can act!

I guess I'm the only person who finds Rooney Mara very sexy as well. The point is that you can't cast an unattractive woman in a lead role. No one will care or watch.

It's a sad but true fact that for a girl to get ahead in the film industry, looks are more important than talent. For a guy to get ahead, he just needs talent, especially in comedies. (How many dorky-looking actors are there compared to actresses?)

The thing with Scarlett Johansson is she's got a bust that can cure erectile dysfunction.

I think Fincher has made a very wise choice, Scarlett Johanson is a very talented actress however she doesn't bring the right physically to the role. Lisbeth has to be someone who is her shocking to look at and yet possible to almost instently dismiss as (to use her own phrase) 'Garbage'. Nothing justifies Mr Finchers decision more than the idiotic tone most people commiting on this story have adoped, Audience pre-conceptions can ruin a film before it's even started and i think Mr Fincher has hit the nail on the head when he says that many people just want to see scarlett naked. Rooney Mara seems to me a good choice to play what is a deeply challenging role, i look forward to seeing her performance

Ok, t*t comments aside (including the one made at myself).. she is not a talented actress. She was ok in Lost in Translation because all she had to do was look bored and attractive which is how she always looks... in everything

I'm not a huge Scarlett fan, though I have enjoyed many of her movies. She is not right for the role.. first of all, she'd have to lose like 30 lbs, and the boobies would be gone anyway. She's just too screen siren pretty.. Lisbeth is shocking, skinny, boyish, tough as nails.. yet vulnerable in a weird way. Excited and hopeful to see Rooney Mara portray our courageous heroine.. she has some very big boots to fill.
