Scary Movie 4 takes on Shyamalan

Director David Zucker lines The Village up in his crosshairs

Everyone at TF Towers heaved a sigh of relief when news rolled in that Carmen Electra, Leslie Nielsen and Simon Rex have signed up to return for David Zucker’s Scary Movie 4.

Ok, so maybe our high-fives were a little over the top, but Zucker has started shooting the fourth outing after drafting in long-time spoof-meister Pat Proft (who penned both Hot Shots!) and his Scary Movie 3 co-writer to write the script. The trio plan to focus their pisstaking crosshairs on M Night Shyamalan’s The Village as well as the bumper crop of superhero movies.

Scary regulars Anna Farris and Regina Hall are reprising their roles as Cindy and Brenda respectively, while Electra’s rebirth – after meeting a grisly demise in the original movie – will undoubtedly be explained in a hilarious way.

It’s also the second Scary outing for Zucker, who inherited the franchise from creators Shawn and Marlon Wayans. Dimension Films clearly feel there’s plenty of lifeblood left in their mocking franchise – despite the horrifying revelation that Proft’s CV has the mark of the beast on it (okay, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special). We’re not out of the woods yet…

Hint: The film starred Michael J Fox as accidental time traveller Marty McFly.
