Sigourney Weaver on Ghostbusters 3

What does Dana know about next installment?

Sigourney Weaver has revealed a few details about the hotly-anticipated Ghostbusters 3.

Speaking while on the Avatar promotional tour, Sigourney shared a few intriguing comments in an interview with Channel 4 News.

She said of the spectre-hunting sequel: "I'm afraid to say [Ghostbuster 3] is happening, I hope people are excited about that."

"I don't know if I'm going to be in it... I know that my little son Oscar - who was kidnapped from me [in Ghostbusters 2] - I think he has grown up to be a Ghostbuster."

Most interestingly of all, Weaver adds: "I don't think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray will have more to do with it - he's a ghost."

So, it's definitely a new generation of Ghostbusters then, but the idea of involving a deadpanning Peter Venkman ghost is certainly not an unpleasant one.

Writing as a real Ghostbusters fan (I still remember being terrified by the 'library ghost' when I was five), I have to say that this idea makes me shiver for all the wrong reasons. Unless this is going to be a 'I'm too old for this ****', one last go for the original line-up (which in itself is a great premise) then it's just a bad idea. As much as I like the current round of funny guys - Ferrell, Rudd, Rogen etc. it just wouldn't feel right. Also, I suspect that with modern effects etc. it will just end up looking too different also - too 'clean'. Almost anything with Murray in is going to be gold (just look at Zombieland for proof of that) but the thought of him playing a sarcastic ghost sidekick is just too gimmicky to get me excited. Either bring back the original old-boys or just let it remain a very fond memory for millions of registered voters.

I'll be happy if it's just the original cast chasing ghosts.

I'm in agreement with Badgeman. We don't know everything about the movie or it's plot, but the idea of any possibility that the writers might kill off Ghostbusters' most popular character makes me hate the story line, even at this point where nothing is official. I don't know how much Bill Murray knows about Star Trek, William Shatner, or Star Trek: Generations but if that is where this story line is going, I hope he'll take notes from fan reaction to Shatner when he went along with STVII. Trekkies everywhere will never let him forget it and he has regretted it years later as that decision affected the story line so that it was impossible for JJ Abrams to prepare a part for him in the most recent film. He was VERY unhappy about that. I hope Murray takes a page from that book and thinks carefully before signing on to any similar story plot, if indeed that's what the plot will be. I believe wisdom and careful consideration are definitely warranted.
