Simpsons movie sequel already has basic story

So says James L. Brooks

Simpsons

The Simpsons executive producer James L. Brooks has revealed that a basic plotline already exists for a second Simpsons movie, should the show’s team ever broach a follow-up.

Talking with Coming Soon, Brooks said that the Simpsons players have a “beginning notion” for a movie sequel, but the “series always comes first with us”.

“We're open to it,” he says about a follow-up, though he admits that the first film “was much harder than we anticipated. It took us a year to try and get to the point because we're all so scared of 'What are we going to do to the Simpsons' and 'What if the movie is no good?'”

He adds: “It was a huge success and we're very open to it and we have a beginning notion if we want to do it, but the series always comes first with us. The series is always primary to us.”

Considering The Simpsons Movie was a huge success when it opened in 2007, we’re sure 20th Century Fox are keen to get another film onto the starting blocks. But with the show still going strong in its 22nd season, it seems they’d be lucky to get a sequel any time soon…

I wasn't a huge fan of the film really, I mean I liked it but I didn't think it compared much to the TV series. The TV series is a lot better, as for another film I don't think one is needed but if they have to they would need to pull something quite major off for it to be any good.

"The series always comes first with us", "What are we going to do to The Simpsons?", "What if the movie is no good?" These all seem like pretty weird things to say seeing as they totally raped and killed the series (and not necessarily in that order) years ago and the first movie sucked some major balls. I think it's about time they just stop it all together. It used to be great but now it's just pathetic. The prospect of another film is not a pleasant one.

The TV show made me go Aye Carumba! as did the comic. The movie made me go Do`h! If its a sequel happening, do Sideshow Bob starts picking off citezens of Springfield Scream style, then the teachers murder Springfield Elementary students The Faculty style, and three psychopaths invade Springfield You`re Next style!
