Slap Shot remake gets a director

Galaxy Quest’s Dean Parisot will tackle the job

Universal has signed director Dean Parisot to remake cult 1977 hockey comedy Slap Shot.

21’s Peter Steinfeld caused a ruckus last year when he announced he had nabbed the job of writing the script, and there have been plenty of calls for the remake to be cancelled.

But that’s never stopped Hollywood before and the studio is ploughing onwards.

The original featured Paul Newman as the player/coach of minor league hockey team the Charlestown Chiefs.

Steinfeld has said he sees an opportunity to hype the team up and turn them into a bunch of punch-happy thugs.

It remains to be seen who’ll be willing to take on the Newman role.
