We desperately want to love the sound of Heathers 2, there’s a longing in certain bits of us that can’t wait to see it transform the soggy careers of it’s stars and reinstate them as the epitome of chain-smoking, clique-busting cool – but there’s a part of us that just isn’t sure it’s going to recapture that magic.
So it’s with mixed emotions that we announce Christian Slater’s involvement in the Daniel Waters-scribbled re-visit to the greatest teen-movie antidote of all time.
“I don't know how much is official,” Winona Ryder told Entertainment Weekly. “But it takes place in Washington and Christian Slater agreed to come back and make an Obi-Wan-type appearance. It's very funny.”
Ryder was, of course, Slater’s original co-star and has confirmed she signed on for Heathers 2. The first flick was a guillotine-sharp black comedy about two outcast high school students (Slater and Ryder) who’ve had enough of the pretentious cheerleader cliques that dominate their lives. So they go on a killing spree, setting up each slaughter as a suicide.
We’ve decided we’re going to be positive and hope that Heathers 2 is a cracker that gives The Slater the re-birth he deserves.
Heathers 2 is slated to shoot sometime next year.
