Sony remaking The Lodger

Hitchcock gets the reimagining brush again

BY Total Film Jun 27th 2007 0:00AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

After Gus Van Sant’s hated update of Psycho, surely everyone realises that trying to remake Alfred Hitchcock should be filed under Really Bad Ideas.

But Sony hasn’t listened to the wisdom – it’s trying that trick. Still, at least the studio has picked The Lodger, a lesser-known Hitch title to hand to David Ondaatje for a splash of new paint.

To his credit, Ondaatje is planning to use the original Marie Belloc Lowndes novel that Hitchcock used for his 1927 silent film. The new movie will switch its setting to modern-day LA with a copycat killer running amuck.
