Stallone says Expendables 2 will be R-rated

Not a PG-13 after all

The Expendables 2 will be R-rated according to Sylvester Stallone, quashing previous rumours that the upcoming sequel would be aiming for a family-friendly certificate to maximise its potential audience.

Giving The Stallone Zone a concise comment on the matter, Stallone said: “After taking in all the odd rumours and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.” Which sounds pretty conclusive to us.

The film had previously been thought to have been toned down due to the involvement of Chuck Norris. The grizzled action star had reportedly insisted that the script involve no swearing if he were to sign on to make an appearance.

Indeed, Stallone himself had previously confirmed that the film would be a PG-13, telling AICN as much in a brief statement earlier in the year. “The PG-13 rumour is true,” he said, “ but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is large in every way and delivers on every level.”

It could yet be the case that Norris’ no-swear rule has been adhered to, but that the R-Rating is a result of the inevitable glut of blood-spattered violence. We can only hope so, anyway. The Expendables 2 opens in the UK on 17 August 2012.

Are you more likely to see the film now it'll be an R? Tell us, below.

Damn straight! But I don't know, if it does go for an R, will it be a hard R or a soft R? If Sly was considering going for a PG-13 earlier, that would seem to suggest that the footage that was shot is mild enough to be edited down to a PG-13, so... I'll have to wait and see what the film is eventually rated for. If it's "Strong bloody violence throughout", like first one was, I'll see it in theaters. If it's just merely "violence and language", I wait for the Blu Ray.

I'd quite happily have them remove Norris from the film so it can be full of swearing. The Expendables is a throw back to the old days of action. It needs over the top explosions, great action actors, lots of blood, lots of guns, lots of swearing. I've never liked Norris anyway and when those Norris jokes came along it made me dislike him even more. "Yippee ki yay mother f**ker!"

.... omg, does it really freaking matter that it will be rated R or not?!?! morons, its going to be a freaking awesome movie if it was rated R or PG 13, hell if it was rated PG it would still wipe the freakin floor with any action packed movie that was released in 2012... sigh* dont have to have a lot of swearing to be a "good movie"
