Star Trek’s next trailer is here!

And it brings new footage…

The brand new trailer for JJ Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek has arrived looking shiny and impressive.

The current release looks distinctly unofficial, since it was originally supposed to debut in front of Watchmen, but we’ll update you with the full HD release once it arrives.

Yes, there’s still plenty o f the greatest hits footage (Kirk driving up on his cycle to the shipyards where the Enterprise is being built, the dive to the laser weapon platform), but there are also plenty of fresh material, including Kirk taking the captain’s chair for the first time and a certain planet (we won’t name it for fear of spoilers) imploding.

Oh, and we properly glimpse Kirk’s mother –played by House’s Jennifer Morrison – taking delivery of her newly-minted son.

The big highlight has got to be snatches of Michael Giacchino’s score, which is already raising debate online – it either rocks or sounds too much like The Dark Knight. We vote for “suitably epic”.

Though we hope they work in Alexander Courage’s famous theme too.

Check it out below, then give us your impressions in the comments…

that was immense. There's only one note that sounds like The Dark Knight score, and it sounds good to me.

Ok, I'm excited. But that was totally ripping off The Dark Knight soundtrack! I, of all people, should know....

A very good trailer doing what JJ does best - linking in seen footage and leading the audience to believe they know what the film will pan out like. I for one was very impressed but at the same time didnt think that any of the shots were the "BIG MONEY" shots meaning that JJ is keeping the best bits for the film - which can only be a better thing. Role on May!

I agree with sounds like that when it shows the name of the Director and then it goes on on that note...But hey Hans Zimmer has done such amazing work that why would it would be a rip-off if Michael Giacchino used a single note or a few from the soundtrack of Dark me soundtrack says alot about the movie and because I love Hans Zimmer's work and the movies he composes the soundtrack to are amazing like Dark Knight, PoC 2 and 3, Gladiator and DaVinci. So looking at the visual effect and the action AND the soundtrack, I believe the movie is going to be amazing...Let's face it Hans Zimmer is experienced and he is older than Michael Giacchino by like 10 years so it would make sense that Michael would like to use a tiny piece (or in this case note) of a more experience and popular composer...Still going to see this movie and going to buy the soundtrack =]..By the way I am new here lol hi to everyone =]
