Starship Troopers up for the remake treatment

Would you like to know more…

Just when you thought the remake mill had churned its way through every conceivable property, a news story comes along to remind you that there's still plenty to plunder.

Yup, producer Neal Moritz has decided that Starship Troopers is due a remake, having ordered a script from Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class).

Moritz is also behind the remake of Total Recall, another of Verhoeven's culty sci-fis.

Will Troopers be stripped of its political vitriol and OTT violence by a sanitised remake? It's only guesswork at the moment, but it's safest to presume the worst when it comes to remakes.

There's no word on an intended release date yet.

Is there any conceivable way this could be a good idea? You thoughts please!

This could be alright... it'd be nice to see them do a True Grit with the source material and make a version closer to the book (with the smart armour etc).

Agreed. The new film has to be made like the book with Smart Armor and the Skinnies (which appear at the beginning). On the subject of excellent SF books that need to be made into films, Mindbridge and The Forever War (both by Joe Haldeman) need the film treatment. They woud rock as movies.

CGI animates series rocked. It was much closer to the books and was refreshingly gritty for a kid's show. The original, though I love it, is NOT a good film. A darker version closer to the books could be brilliant.

There's no way this can even come close to the original. I can't remember a film I saw with OTT gore and nudity that came out in the last two years that hit the cinemas. Plus the FCC and the BBFC members heads would explode if even a fraction of the political standpoint is included. The only way this could work is a big budget, amazing script and going straight-to-DVD so the censorship government don't have to worry about the kids too much.
