Steve Coogan writes Hamlet 2

In a new comedy, at least...

When considering the great pantheon of British scribes – yer Shakespeare, yer Keats, yer Chaucer, the name Steve Coogan doesn’t usually crop up. Unless, of course, you consider his contributions to The Day Today and Alan Partridge.

Now Coogan – or his character, at least – is getting the chance to prove that he can match the Bard’s scribbling skills in a new comedy called Hamlet 2. It finds a high school drama teacher trying to save his department by penning a sequel to Shakespeare’s Danish tragedy.

Catherine Keener is his co-star and Andrew Fleming is directing. They’ll start shooting next week in New Mexico.
