Hoping to bounce back from the disappointment that was All The King’s Men, Steven Zaillian is planning to write and direct something that hasn’t already been shoved up on screen to Oscar glory by someone else.
His next project will be adapting Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Shining Suns and directing it for Sony. The book – which has been a bestseller for months (so no pressure there) – follows two Muslim women who are married to the same man who develop a friendship spanning 10 years with the war in Afghanistan as a backdrop.
Producer Scott Rudin will be keeping a careful eye on the movie’s development, especially as he splashed a truckload of cash on the rights to the book early in the year.
