Sundance Update: bad buzz and good deals

Tuesday at the fest

Gregor Jordan’s latest, The Informers is garnering some terrible reviews at this year’s Sundance fest.

Tuesday’s big buzz turned nasty for the Brett Easton Ellis adaptation, as many of the critics who saw it hated it. Our favourite is Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta: “Spoiled Rich kids. Drugs. Sex. Amber Heard naked. Aids. Infidelity. Kidnapping. Unconnected. Boring. Uninteresting. Horrible.”

But there was much better news for An Education (see yesterday’s story) as Sony Pictures Classics stepped up to buy it for about $4 million.

Winning Season

Sam Rockwell starrer Winning Season, about an alcoholic basketball coach, found a home at Lionsgate, while Fox Searchlight grabbed Adam, starring Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne.

The weirdest moment for the fest came when the place ground to a halt so people could watch the inauguration of President Barack Obama on screens around town.

Meanwhile, if you’re a fan of shorts, you can find 10 of this year’s Sundance entries on iTunes (yes, even the British one, for a nice change). But where is Treevenge? We want deadly trees! The shorts are here.
