Superman plot rumours emerge

And is Anne Hathaway in line for Lois Lane?

New rumours about Zack Snyder’s Superman: The Man of Steel have emerged.

According to What's Playing, The Man of Steel will focus on Supermans’s early days, and will feature him becoming involved with a struggle between two tribes in Africa.

He then returns to Smallville to learn about his origins after he uses his powers to help settle the dispute.

With David Goyer (The Dark Knight) as screenwriter and Christopher Nolan producing, The Man of Steel is expected to repeat the success of the pair's Batman reboot.

Though we're in early days, this ‘returning to his roots’ plot sounds a bit familiar. Almost as if it’s been a TV show…

Another tidbit chruned up by the rumour mill is Anne Hathawayto play Lois Lane, although you'd imagine pretty much any age-appropriate actress is in with a shot.

Superman: Man of Steel is set for late 2012.

Think the man of steel can end conflict in Africa? Or should he stick to Middle America? Let us know!

in a similar storyline to the comic book series Superman: Birthright, that series featured a similar story where Clark essentially ended a war between two african tribes before heading back to Smallville & then on to Metropolis

Anne Hathaway has been linked to Selina Kyle in Dark Knight Rises, too. Now THERE'S a choice. Which franchise would you pick?

Every rumour to do with this film gets me hyped up. I am such a huge Supes fan, and Morten i love Birthright. but yeah Smallville is ending this year and Clark will become Superman at the end so Tom Welling should be Clark and Erica Durance Lois

I'm hoping these plot rumours are way off the mark. That sounds unbelievably dull. Also, given Snyder's gift for fantastical eye candy, it would seem rather a waste of his talents. Surely you'd only pick him to direct if the scope and stakes of the film matched the kind of stuff only seen to date in the pages of the comic?

I don't mind the idea of Anne Hathaway as Lois Lane but am going to need a bit more convincing about the possible two African tribes plot. The recent Superman: Earth One graphic novel I think could act as a good template for the storyline of Snyder's film. It's not perfect but does enough IMO to revamp and modernise the character in a way that I think would definitely work onscreen and make Superman cool again. I also heard that they are looking into having an actor to portray Clark Kent and use Avatar-like CG for Superman (what I presume they mean by this is to enhance whoever ends up playing him with CG, instead of a completely CG Supes) and that Matthew Goode is a possible candidate for the role. On the one hand, I can see why they would take that root as it would allow them to cast someone who has the acting ability and face for the role but might not be able to bulk up efficiently enough to portray Superman convincingly (Like Josh Hartnett or Matthew Goode). However, I feel there are enough talented actors out there who possess the look, both facially and physically that the CG avenue seems unnecessary. I would really like Routh back but unfortunately I think the chances of that are very small.
