Taken, starring Liam Neeson has launched in first place at the US box office with $24.6 million.
The action thriller’s arrival meant that comedy Paul Blart: Mall Clop had to move down to second place, with $14 million in its third weekend. And new horror The Uninvited settled for third place with $10.5 million.
Fourth place found comedy Hotel For Dogs, which is showing real legs and held on to its position from last week. And last week’s number three, Gran Torino, slipped to fifth and earned $8.6 million.
The only other new release competing for audiences on this tough, Superbowl weekend was Renee Zellweger’s new comedy New In Town, which had to settle for eighth place and $3.4 million.
