Ted Raimi talks Evil Dead remake

“Fairly certain it will be shot in New Zealand”

Ted Raimi has spilled all the beans he can – only about half a tin, but TF is a tin half-full kind of site – about the remake of The Evil Dead

Raimi was doing press interviews for his series of horror shorts airing at Break.com and admitted he didn't know if he'd be involved in the impending remake.

“I don’t even know if [Diablo Cody] has finished the script yet,” he told Fangoria

“I can say this: I think the new Evil Dead is going to be fantastic. I believe Rob Tapert is producing it again and I’m fairly certain it will be shot in New Zealand.”

Raimi said Tapert is fond of New Zealand as he shot both the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess TV shows there.

“I’m guessing some American actors will probably go over there for it, but other than that, I don’t know anything about it,” he admitted.

*hurray* diablo cody...Unfortunately the smug, self-aware horror movie was already done by Scream.

When I read that comment in the linked article - "We can't wait to scare a new generation" - it makes me think that Sam Raimi doesn't really understand his own film or the power it has. Does he not realise that a new generation that either wasn't around or was too young when the original came out discovers it every few years or so anyway? Or are they specifically targetting idiots who refuse to watch anything made before 1999?

@Garth, sadly I think they're targeting the type of 18 year old movie goers who think Paranormal Activity is the scariest film they've seen. The fact that they're boasting about Diablo Cody writing the script proves Raimi has gone off the rails and become just another clueless director. She's 32 and tries to write teen lingo that she has no idea about. Her Evil Dead will end up like Jennifer's Body, a trashy, braindead 'Hollywood Horror' filled with pointlessness, bad dialogue and cardboard character stereotypes.
