Terminator rights could get bought by Indie financier

Megan Ellison interested in the franchise

terminator

Indie film producer Megan Ellison has made a bid for the rights to the new Terminator film.

With Arnold Schwarzenegger keen to return for a fifth time-travelling action-fest, and Justin Lin pitching his idea for a fivequel all over town, Ellison has emerged as an unusual potential financier for the film.

An auction is taking place at the moment as the rights to Terminator move to change hands, with Lionsgate a clear frontrunner to take home the contract.

But now Ellison’s production company Annapurna Pictures has made an attempt to outbid Lionsgate.

Who is Ellison? Well, she’s currently funding Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, as well as Kathryn Bigelow’s Kill Bin Laden and The Wettest Country In The World.

Which could mean that we’d be in for a treat if she takes home the Terminator rights. Seeing as Annapurna isn't a big Hollywood studio, could that mean less meddling and a better final product? Dare to dream...

Think it makes any difference who owns the rights to the franchise? Or do you believe an Indie company can get back to the roots of what once made Terminator so great? Talk to us...

Reminds of the Superman 4 debacle, when Salkinds sold the rights to some cowboys called Golan & Globus, who didnt have enough money for anything including a sequence in New York which was actually filmed in MIlton Keynes (!) Either way, its sad to see a once violent and dramatic franchaise become a laughing stock..(although with T3 that was pretty much set in stone).

Terminator 3 is the worst of the bunch.. I didn't mind Terminator Salvation, it had some good points but reminded me of the Matrix sequels. I really can't see how Arnie will fit in any new movies.. he's waaaay too old and judging by his cameo in the Expendables has completely forgotten how to act... well... Arnie act.

Terminator 3 is the worst of the bunch as ChrisWootton said, but it's still a decent film and the ending will always give it some kudos. I'm not sure about another movie with Arnie in it as a T-800. Of course, there's no guarantee that's who he'd play. He could be a member of the human resistance who, in some way, SKYNET respected and modelled the 101 series after. In a selfish way, I enjoy the universe it's set in and, much like when a favourite TV show comes to an end, I feel a little sad that there could be no more stories told.
