New Terminator 4 shots straight from set

Some new Terminator Salvation set shots have hit the 'net and while they don't offer us glimpses of Christian Bale in character or a CGI-Arnie they're still intriguing.
Who's that soldier and why does he look like Shia LaBeouf? How are the crew able to sit that close to a Terminator explosion? And isn't that the truck from Terminator 3?

Practical effects
With at least one of the images being a positive sign that McG will be relying on practical effects for his take on Terminator - that's a real chopper he's set on fire - and another featuring a big gun, it seems the franchise is in safe hands. Who knew?
