The Avengers Superbowl spot teaser arrives online

Plus Joss Whedon shoots down Spider-Man rumours

For those of you with little to no interest in pigskin-chucking, Marvel have released a teaser for their Superbowl advert for The Avengers online. And brief as it is, there’s still some new stuff in there to keep the fans excited.

The teaser is completely dialogue-free, but does show a few new snippets of action, including Thor standing atop the Chrysler Building and Black Widow looking slinky.

Check out the new teaser, below…

Expect the full trailer (and probably some others besides) to hit the web after the Superbowl airs on Sunday 5 February. Meanwhile, Joss Whedon was recently part of an Avengers Twitter chat, and took the opportunity to put those Spider-Man rumours to bed once and for all. “There is no Spider-Man cameo,” said Whedon. “But the Avengers do turn off the dark.” Intriguing…

Tom Hiddleston was also present, and he had a few words to say about how Loki has changed for The Avengers. “More mischievous. More evil. More hubristic. More delusional. More damaged. More badass,” he explains. That’s that cleared up then.

The Avengers
opens in the UK on 27 April 2012.

Would you have liked to see Spider-Man crop up? Do you think he still might? Tell us, below.

Actually this is just a Promo for the promo (ridiculous i know, but true). the actual super bowl spot will be either 30 60 90 seconds as all super bowl ad spaces are sold in 30 second blocks Also notice the video title "Marvel's The Avengers Super Bowl XLVI Commercial - Teaser" as in teaser of the commercial. Leave it to the Americans to advertise an advertisement

Erm, am i missing something, but what does Whedon mean when he says “But the Avengers do turn off the dark.”? Its not going to be 2 hours of Cap fitting lightbulbs is it?

@SiMan isn't the Spiderman Musical called Turn off the Dark? I'm hoping for an inpromptue dance number with Thor and Hulk!

I'd be more excited about this flick if the Avengers lineup were a little more balanced. A comic on the subject:

I`d guess that the theatre showing Turn Off The Dark gets trashed in the movie.

Could the Avengers go on a mission to save a theatre audience and end up standing next to the leading actor in Turn Off the Dark while he's in costume? Cos that would be the funniest in joke since the X-Men crew member ran into view wearing a Spider-Man costume during the Statue of Liberty lobby scene in the DVD outtakes!

Just checked and I do not believe Sony have anything to do with Turn Off the Dark, and as Marvel own the comics that the musical is based on, there should be no reason why they can't have the musical costume appearing in The Avengers, as long as there is no hint of web-slinging-ery or friendly neighborhood-ery...
