The Avengers teaser poster and website launched

First glimpse of latest Marvel mission

No new footage is expected at Comic-Con but Marvel are teasing us into The Avengers with a slick looking website and poster.

Probably saving the juiciest bits of footage for the Disney D23 expo in August, the marketing onslaught for the follow up to Captain America, Thor, Iron Man et al is modestly underway.

You can go to the website now and download the poster, register for updates and receive what is sure to become a deluge of promotional materials over the next year.

Here's how it looks in full:

The Avengers is set to open in the UK on 4 May 2012.

Like your first glimpse?  Or feel you're being toyed with?  We'd love to hear what you think...

Reminds me a bit of The Fantastic 4 logo. Pointy and shiny. Hopefully that's not a bad omen.

This looks great and has me very excited! Love how they've kept the arrow point in the "A" as that is a key part of the Avengers logo. I wonder if the next teaser poster will have the "camera" / perspective move out a bit further to reveal the Avengers cresent and the final one will be the full title perhaps? Either way, this and The Dark Knight Rises are two of the best teaser posters out there, genuinely mouth-watering, pant-wettingly exciting ... 2012 can't come soon enough :)

I've seen loads of fan-made posters and some of them are superb, really well crafted and put together, but most of them are just a collage from the previous Marvel movies - such as Cap, Iron Man, Thor & Hulk from their movie stills pasted together. Some of them look great but I still like the official teaser, it's simple yet effective and it's a "teaser", it's not meant to give everything away, just tease you with what's coming. And if it gets people talking and asking "What's the blue/silver and black "A" thingy all about?" then it's doing it's job. In the 1980's the best teaser poster EVER was created for Ghostbusters, it was just the ghost-in-red-circle logo on a black background. People didn't quite know what it was, but it got them interested in it and they wanted to know more, this is similar, not everyone will get it at first but hopefully it will intrigue them. Sometimes simplicity is best. :)
