The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer is online

Batman! Gordon! Bane!

It was showing before Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 this weekend, but now the official teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has been unleashed online.

It turned up on the movie’s official Facebook page, and it offers salivating fans the chance to rewatch it at their leisure.

At a lean 1 minute 33 seconds, Nolan and co have packed in enough to get the pulse pounding without revealing much about the plot.

Commissioner Gordon’s hurting bad, hooked up to life support in a hospital bed. Bruce Wayne is being coaxed into returning to protect Gotham. Tom Hardy’s monstrous brute Bane looks set to be Batman's biggest threat yet.

Plus, we get reminded, via recycled Batman Begins and The Dark Knight clips, Liam Neeson's voiceover, and some ominously worded title cards (“Every Journey Has An End’), that this will be the final outing for Nolan’s Caped Crusader.

Watch the teaser trailer for yourself right now:

The Dark Knight Rises opens on 20 July 2012.

I would've paid just to see that to be honest, screw that wizard boy. Oh and Murphy, i agree with you - Dalidab, whilst you're free to have you're own opinion and express it - do you have to do it such huge paragraphs? And then try and show of by naming directors and calling things masterpieces? it won't get you a job at total film. If it did, i'd be doing it. Oh and spelling is important too. And just for the record, The Dark Knight was a brilliant film, one of the best examples of a good sequel I can think of. Heath Ledger was brilliant in it, and whilst you can say it's only because he died that he got the oscar, he was an easy nomination at least anyway - plenty of less worthy people have won an Oscar. Kind of ironic that i got annoyed by the paragraphs, isn't it?

Dalidab, put the crack pipe down and look at what you just said. You slagged off Dark Knight (Ledger was already pretty much a shoe in for best supporting actor before he died anyway, and he was bloody brilliant. I know it's no Wakefield amateur dramatics performance but still, give him points for trying eh?), and you're going to say you liked batman forever? Hang your head in shame and never join a batman film debate ever again. You fail.

The Dark Knight was superior to Batman Begins in every way, BB was a fantastic reboot to a well-worn franchise and TDK managed to be that rare thing of being a sequel that far exceeded expectations and was better than it's predecessor. To like the first film but not the second seems strange to me and it's very rare to find someone who thinks that. Ledger was immense and would have got the plaudits regardless had he lived. What makes his performance so great is that it is so different to previous incarnations yet totally The Joker at the same time. He brought something different to the role rather than just doing a "Nicholson" or "Romero" impersonation ... and he was mesmerising every moment spent on screen, a truly wonderful performance by an actor sorely missed (I agree that his role in Dr Parnassus was also fantastic, but let's face it, not many have seen it) The Dark Knight Rises will, I think cap, an amazing trilogy of films, that will be remembered for great story-telling, action, character and making superheroes feel grown up yet accessible for all ages. Nolan will be a tough act to follow ...

'Light comic book tone'. It's batman. There is no f*****g light comic book tone, and neither should there be. Stop pretending to be a film critic. And while you're at it, try actually reading the comics (especially Knightfall), especially if you're going to trash Nolan for his 'Bruce Wayne discovering the batcave' bit, which is pretty identical to how he's portrayed as discovering it in the comics.

Begins is best due to it's plot, but Dark Knight has excitement and fun, and hopefully rises with create a balance between the two. I believe the Oscar was most likely given to Heath Ledger because of the circumstances, but you can't deny that his performance was not superb. In many ways it seems what you are saying is to be controversial. I don't really feel you can compare the different Batman series' as they each take a different approach to the comics. Tom Daley? Really? The whole point of The Expendables (and it's sequel) was to bring together action stars in a loving homage to 80's/90's OTT action movies featuring the people who made the genre. Whether you love or loathe The Dolph, he was a part of that, so was Schwarzenegger, Willis, Stallone (see the pattern forming, not many Olympic divers in the genre is there?) ... in fact how many action movies has Tom Daley starred in? .... exactly. Oh and it's the Euro Tournament next year, not the World Cup ... if you're gonna whinge about something, get your facts right, you McNuggett! :)

Tim Burton did a wonderful job in developing Batman onto the big screen, and I do still believe that Michael Keaton made possibly the best Batman to date. I do however believe that Heath Ledger surpassed Jack Nicholson in his portrayal of Joker and was well deserving of his Oscar. The Dark Knight was an outstanding accomplishment for Christopher Nolan, and has set his career alight with blockbusters that followed such as Inception and Superman now under his belt. The chemistry between Christian Bale and Heath Ledger was amazing, and you could see the devotion between the two actors on screen. I am positive that Dark Knight Rises will be just as successful as Dark Knight as it is the trilogy conclusion to a huge franchise such as Batman, helped by the fact that it is directed by one of the best who has a massive following himself. Any work with Christopher Nolan's name across it is something I am going to trust personally. I won't say much about dalidab1982, but I will say that although you are entitled to your opinions; I think you are hiding behind such problems as autism and homosexuality. There was no reason for you to bring in offence to any other user on this website as we are all here for the same thing; that being to share thoughts on films. To wish something as harsh as cancer is indescribable and a disgusting behavioural act, loads of people have died from cancer including Tom Daley's father and my family for that matter. I have reported you to Total Film as I believe you stepped way out of line. I can not wait for Dark Knight Rises, and I will certainly be booking my tickets in advance for the opening show.
