The Dark Knight Rises third trailer is here: watch online now!

Gotham's reckoning is here...

The Dark Knight Rises kicked off its viral campaign yesterday, and it didn't take long for obsessive fans to crack the clues that lead to this: the final, full trailer.

Things kick off slowly, ominously, with a pared down version of Selina Kyle's (Anne Hathaway) "A storm is coming" speech, as we see a glimpses of a Gotham on the edge - bridges collapse, football fields disintegrate, planes go down.

And things aren't looking too good for Bruce Wayne, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's cop John Blake asking "Did they kill him?". Kyle's response: "I'm not sure."

There are so many goosebump-y moments in the trailer, it'd be a shame to list them all here, so get watching the trailer for yourself right now:

Bane's dialogue is certainly sounding legible here, and for all the foreboding talk, this trailer isn't light on action either. There's plenty of snatched glances at Batman and Bane going toe-to-toe, footage from the prologue revealed late last year with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and it looks like Marion Cotillard's character could be a love interest for Wayne.

Hathaway appears to be acquitting herself admirably with the high-kicking stuff too, and should bring a genuine duplicity to the enigmatic role.

And if it was in danger of becoming a little too serious, that final shot (and accompanying one liner) undercuts it nicely.

The Dark Knight Rises opens on 20 July 2012.

Trailer looks great, don't mean to come over like a Guardian reader but Bane's dialogue surely cannot be legible, it has to be audible, no?

@Raelc, legible can mean "plainly discernible", which would make it correct. As for the trailer, pretty damn good.

I don't get the excitement. The trailer looks really... meh... I loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight was very good but this just doesn't look up to it. Firstly, the villain, Bane, looks a bit rubbish. Unless you are a fan of the comics hardly anyone knows him. Then we have cat-woman, Jesus. Again, nothing exciting. I'm surprised Nolan went down this direction, at least he stopped before fecking Robin. What am I missing?

Unreal. The Avengers was good, but this is the sort of film where I need to start thinking about what I'll do with my life after its over. Nolan is the master of teasing and giving us glimpses, but this looks absolutely incredible. A bleak, hopeless landscape, ripe for the revenge of The Dark Knight. Powerful

I thought the Prometheus trailer yesterday was excellent and got me very excited for that film, but this actually gave me goosebumps. I was pleasantly surprised by Anne Hathaway in this as well, although I've never doubted her as I find her a decent actress. This just shows her in a different capacity from the usual romcom c**p. Roll on July 20th - IMAX midnight showing it is!

I was a tad worried that Nolan out did himself with the dark kight and wouldn't be able to top it but this trailer has restored my faith!! the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. Do not know what we cinema goers have done to deserve the Avengers, Prometheus and he Dark Knight Rises all in the same summer. Avengers lived up to the hype, and i Have no doubt the others will be epic too. Buzzing!!!

Just a general question for trailers in, err, general....Is there an oscar for best trailer? They've been a part of the movie-going experience for so long now, i'd have thought that there would be some recognition for them. There is surely now a craft as to how a good trailer is made - just seems odd to me that the industry recognises stuff like 'Best make-up' but not 'best trailer'.

This is has the feel of an oldschool classic. Christopher Nolan has really hit the nail on the head, of every film he does, why to go to the cinema. This is going to be something else.

I thought Prometheus' trailer was sick but that just blew it out of the water. Christopher Nolan is the best director on the planet at the moment.

It just feels completely out of place in a trilogy steeped in feux-realism. I know the arguments against that statement, but I still don't like it. I just hope I can get over it enough to enjoy the film. Huge fan.

Considering the fact Bane's managed to acquire alot of Batmobile's himself it's pretty clear Batman will have to upgrade his travel arrangements.

Ok lets get real, im really looking forward to this movie especially given the fact the first two were great and im a big bale and hardy fan, BUT.......this trailer isnt that good and def not better than the last one. A lot of big, new vesrions of trailers coming out the wood work since avengers took to the stage, as for prometheus its got quality written all over it, and ridley clearly back to what he does best!
