The Dark Knight tops $500 million

But Tropic Thunder retains US top spot

It might still be $100 million short of Titanic, but The Dark Knight continued its assault on box office history over the weekend by passing the £500 million mark in America.

Whilst Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder held on to the top spot for the third week in a row, Chris Nolan’s blockbuster moved back up a spot to third, taking $8.8 million to Thunder’s $11.5 million.

Vin Diesel’s Babylon AD separated the two, which took approximately $9.7 million.
