The Expendables sequel gets a release date

Still no sign of a director though...

The Expendables 2 just got official.

It may not have anybody in the director’s seat at the moment, but Lionsgate have announced at the CinemaCon event that the follow-up to The Expendables has a release date.

The action follow-up, surprisingly called (wait for it) The Expendables 2, is scheduled to hit cinemas on 17 August 2012.

While the former Rambo won’t be calling the shots behind the camera this time, Sylvester Stallone has already told his legion of followers on Twitter that the script, while still in development, has "a more hard edged tone- An Extreme case of Male-Pattern-Baddness".

Which, y’know, seems fair enough.

Glad The Expendables 2 has secured a release date? Wish they'd have gone for a more imaginative title? You know where to comment...

God I wish Sly was directing! Here's hopping Expendables 2 has twice as much blood and guts than the 1st one, which was awesome, contrary to popular belief.

I'd have money on one of the French guys. A Leterrier or a Megaton etc.

The only way the Expendables could get more testosterone is if it was directed by Chuck Norris. Here's hoping...

Tony Scott should do it.....and add Denzel to the cast as one tough bad guy or maybe Paul Verhoeven....or Jan de Bont

Godzilla's got nothing on chuck Norris. Chuck Norris pees molten lava.

Chuck Norris has gotta be in the sequel, hopefully Sly's twitter fans are asking for him.

It needs Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Tony Jaa, Donny Yen, Mila Jovovich, Vinnie Jones, Michelle Rodrigez and Ray Park, Dwayne Joohnson too, some of Arnie's rival Mercs for ya. Michelle and Mila can joing Stallone's crew.

Tbh dalidab as far as I'm concerned Bieber can replace Dolph lundgren, he's a far better actor!

'plus he's from Sweden so what did you expect him to talk like'. what the hell? have you seen Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? That film's full of Swedish actors and actresses that can string more than two words together at a time. It's not the language barrier holding Lundgren back, it's the fact he can't act for toffee (even for bieber's standards) and is totally unintelligible. Oh and saw Sampson in an episode of waterloo road finally... dear god that kid can't act. At all.

(And yes, I know Lundgren's got an MA in chemical engineering... he still can't act :p)

Sorry what? Where did I say he needed to be a shakespearian actor? I like tons of actors who haven't been classically trained- in the Expendables itself I liked Terry Crewes, Jason Statham, and to a certain extent Stallone, Couture, Zayas and Li. But Lundgren can barely string a sentence together, his character in Expendables was really poorly written and to have him pop back up in the end was pathetic. 'Politely prove you wrong'... um, don't really have to prove anything, but I'd say the dozens of terrible straight-to-dvd movies where Lundgren gurns across the screen like a semi-comatose automaton would be pretty compelling evidence.
