The first trailer for Mel Gibson's The Beaver arrives online

With a new poster too

After much debate about the movie's future following the recent controversy surrounding Mel Gibson, the trailer for The Beaver is finally online.

The movie was set to be Mel Gibson's definitive comeback performance, before his phone-rant antics shoved it into release limbo.

The Beaver is now looking at a spring 2011 release, and you can check out the trailer below (that's the new poster above, too).

There are some pretty strong credentials here: it's based on a Black List script, it's directed by Jodie Foster (who also co-stars), and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) fill out the 'young and hip' quotient.

Check out the trailer here:

It's going to be impossible to completely separate any assessment of this movie from Gibbo's personal affairs, but this could certainly be the film to remind everyone that, yes, the man can act.

We can imagine the promotional junkets being pretty awkward though.

What do you make of the trailer? Is it enough to salvage Mel's career? Tell us!

ive got be honest I could not give a c**p about what gibbo is like in real life, i don't care what he does or says and unless it directly mentions someone personaly or a culture, why should anyone else care? he's a film star and was a great actor. Yes his career is in the toilet but all because of the media shovelling this c**p down our throats 24/7. I think this will be a good film, not gibsons comeback, it's going to take something more personal along the lines of JCVD. All I want is for mel gibson to make good films, act fantasticaly and make a 5th lethal weapon ( a man can dream), his personal life has nothing to do with any of those things.

I would have enjoyed the trailer more if it weren't for the brat kids studios feel compelled into casting, giving the movie "heart". This film (far as I'm concerned) should focus on nothing else but Gibson, the man can carry a movie without breaking sweat...lose the cute/soulless children please!

I think its going to be a very good movie at least. It is quite a brave nevertheless crazy step from Gibsion and Joddie to make such a movie [face the inner demons of depression and Mel's life] I think it is what the doc. orderd for Mel, and Joddie was so brave in ther attempet to heal her best buddy. I think the let-down in it isn't dark enough on the family side but I can't complian its intended to help us face our demons and they needed the family side of the story ... they did not want to end up with a gun in the mouth or what good is the beaver dummy at the end of the day if the dude dies!!?
