The Taking Of Pelham 123 trailer online

It’s the Trav versus the Denz in train thriller…

BY Total Film Feb 13th 2009 5:05AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

The first trailer for Tony Scott’s remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123 is now online.

It sees John Travolta’s naughty criminal take an entire train carriage hostage beneath the streets of New York.

Denzel Washington is the unlucky transit schlub who gets roped into dealing with the gun-toting mystery man as a race to pay a ransom ensues.

You can get your first glance at the footage at the film’s official site.

What do we think? It’s loaded with car crashes – Scott clearly can’t get enough of the jumping, spinning cars this time around.

And is it just us, or does John Travolta very occasionally sound like Dr Evil – particularly when he first holds up the train driver.

We’re really not convinced this was worth remaking the 1974 cult classic for, but let’s wait and see the whole thing when it hits cinemas this July.

Unless we already have with the trailer…

We want your thoughts on the trailer? You like? Or did you yawn?

I'm not impressed. Travolta just seems out of place and I'm getting a bit bored of Washington playing that same guy over and over again.

It should go direct to DVD. It'll be in and out of theaters so fast - it might as well have. A July opening? For this? Nope - that's a no-go.

Haven't they re-made this thing at least twice already? Once on screen and once on TV? Man - the author rode this one hard and long.

And you're right about Washington - he's coasting.
And Travolta is too. But that's all he's ever done. Expect more from Denzel.
