Sam Raimi is not a man to skimp on the good stuff when getting us all excited about the next Spider-instalment.

Though there is definitely one thing missing from this latest trailer: Venom. Yes, despite the symbiote suit shown affecting Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in all its dark-webbed glory, we never actually get to see the nasty alien creature once he’s taken over Topher Grace’s Eddie Brock. Which is odd, considering that when Raimi and co brought early footage to this year’s Comic-Con, there was at least one shot of Venom that if it wasn’t finished, was certainly very close.

Still, there’s plenty of wow factor to be found here: Thomas Haden Church looks great as Sandman and it seems like the filmmakers are making full use of his abilities. Considering that what we’re seeing is still a work-in-progress, we’d say that Spider-Man 3 is shaping up to be another treat. Even James Franco’s Harry Osborn looks decent taking over his father’s mantel with a new Goblin suit.
