Tom Cruise in talks to star in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Guy Ritchie trying to land the star

Guy Ritchie's upcoming adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. could be about to gain some serious star power in the shape of Tom Cruise.

The star is apparently in early talks to star in the film, which will translate the adventures of the '60s TV show onto the big screen.

For those who don't remember the show, it followed the exploits of Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kurakin, a pair of agents working for the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) to thwart the nefarious organisation, T.H.R.U.S.H.

Fortunately, our heroes have a whole host of hi-tech gadgets and gizmos to make their task a little easier. That's just how U.N.C.L.E. rolls…

Having previously been residing with Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney, Warner Bros now has Ritchie in line to direct the project, from a script by Scott Z. Burns. Vinnie Jones to star opposite the Cruiser? It could happen...

Would Tom Cruise be a good pick to lead this one? Tell us, below!

Don't really see the point in hiring Cruise, who is already headlining movies about a 60s TV show. He might as well just make M:I 5 (which will surely have to be based in England?! Come on, it's MI5!)

Only slight problem i had with the MI movies is that they were star vehicles for Cruise - fair enough, he's a big star and he's got every right to do it that way, but it was all about him and never really got the feeling that they worked as a 'team' - maybe the later films tried to remedy this a bit, but it was all still a Cruise film. Surely UNCLE needs a 2nd character to team up with as well. Can't remember a film where Cruise shared the limelight with someone on screen in this sense though (Rain Man maybe?)

This sounds terrible to me but I also don't know much about what kind of show UNCLE was. When I heard Soderbergh and Clooney attached I was thinking it was going to be a cool spy neo-noir type film (like Ocean's 11 meets the Bourne movies). Then with Guy Ritchie I figured it would be a lot less understated but still toeing the line of neo-noir/thriller and action. Tom Cruise just makes me think of over the top cheesy action films which is not at all something I'd be interested in.

GDeGraphenr - But wouldn't it be great to see Tom Cruise in an actual cool spy neo-noir type film, and avoid all the Cruise clichés? "Cruise-chés"
