Tom Cruise stars in first trailer for Oblivion: watch now

He’s cleaning up after the apocalypse

The first trailer has been released for Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi epic Oblivion, in which Tom Cruise is charged with cleaning up a ruined Earth in the aftermath of a brutal war with an alien race.

With just two weeks left on the clock before he can rejoin the rest of the survivors, Cruise is just looking to keep his head down, but that plan goes out of the window when he encounters Morgan Freeman’s menacing rebel leader.

Things become even more complicated when a beautiful woman (Olga Kurylenko) crash-lands from the skies above. Who shot down her spacecraft? And how does she fit in with Freeman’s posse?

Take a look, below:

While the post-apocalyptic visuals look undoubtedly impressive and the action seems thrilling enough, the trailer doesn’t do much in the way of untangling what looks like a fairly tangled plot. Is it a survival story, a mystery, an action flick or all of the above? It’s hard to tell from the above. It could just be a live-action remake of WALL·E.

Co-starring Andrea Riseborough, Melissa Leo and Zoe Bell, Oblivion opens in the UK on 12 April 2013. We’ll have to wait until then to get our answers…

In the meantime, you can also check out the Oblivion poster:

Anyone else thinks this just looks like a violent remake of Wall-E?

Looks alright, got a funny feeling at the end of the film, it will have turned out to be all a big dream Tom Cruise character who is living in an escape pod...

Too many cliches and with his name being Jack (what is with the whole Jack name thing in Hollywood?!) I'm very put off but the smallest part of me is still interested in the visuals.
