Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Gary Oldman star in first Lawless trailer: watch now

"We don't lay down for nobody"

Lawless had debuted an excellent first trailer, featuring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy as a pair of criminal brothers who become feared outlaws in Prohibition-era America.

The film follows the exploits of the Bondurant brothers, a pair of bootleggers who find themselves threatened by the crooked Southern authorities who want a share of their profits.

The first trailer features plenty of gun-slinging action, alongside some instantly memorable supporting turns from the likes of Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman and a demonic-looking Guy Pearce.

Take a look at the new trailer below…

It looks as though LaBeouf has finally found a project that will allow him to do more than look scared and run away, while Hardy looks as unshakeably cool as ever. Meanwhile, if there’s a more badass sight than Gary Oldman toting a Tommy gun, we’ve yet to see it.

Directed by The Road’s John Hillcoat, the film is an adaptation of the novel The Wettest Country In The World by Matt Bondurant, with none other than Nick Cave on script-writing duties. Lawless opens in the US on 31 August 2012, with a UK release date to be confirmed.

That looks awesome, Pearce good, Hardy great, and Oldman always a pleasure to watch oh Shia LaBeouf what a way to spoil everyone’s fun with a terrible piece of casting! Still going to watch it though…

Hopefully this will return LaBeouf to the promise he showed in 'A guide to recognising your saints'.

Finally a LaBeouf film I'm looking forward too, shame they changed the title, I prefered the Wettest County instead of Lawless but oh well.

Let's not all judge LaBeouf until we see the film, he's showed promise in a few films so maybe he'll surprise you all in this! I feel like everyone hates on him unfairly, I've never disliked the guy. Anyway, the film looks awesome, can't wait.

To be honest I think Shia has just been unlucky these past few years and has signed on to the wrong movies. Let's face're not going to show your best acting when Michael Bay's your director and as for Crystal Skull...everything was wrong in that movie! He wasn't bad in Wall Street 2 and I personally enjoyed Disturbia.
