Total Recall launches new viral website

"Escape from your world to ours"

Total Recall, Len Wiseman's remake of the 1990 sci-fi classic, has launched a new viral website for the Rekall, the company offering virtual vacations via memory implants.

Sporting a tag-line offering the chance to, "escape from your world to ours," the site offers users a chance to enter their telephone number for more information about the company's "vacation packages".

"Come to Rekall for a memory of a lifetime," says the site. Entering your phone number will result in a call from a recorded message, serving up some more info about the services offered. Sadly, it's US numbers only at this point, but hopefully that will soon change.

Inputting a number also prompts the following response on the site: "Thank you for entering your phone number. A representative will call you when your vacation package is available. Rekall, we can remember it for you."

That last bit is a nice little nod to the original Philip K Dick story upon which Total Recall was based, which was entitled We Can Remember It For You Wholesale. The remake will open in UK cinemas on 22 August 2012. In the meantime you can take a look at a shiny new banner for the film, below...

I thought that the teaser for the teaser looked pretty good, but very hard to tell at this point. Didn't really ding my bell in the same way as the Prometheus teaser teaser did. I'm wondering though where the whole teaser thing will end. If it carries on the way it is is we'll be left with the teaser teaser teaser teaser teaser for the viral teaser teaser teaser that hints at a sequel. For the teaser. Which is 0.3 seconds long and can only be viewed using an electron microscope and a time machine.

With Wrath of the Titans and this movie, it seems like the year old the Cult Film sequels. The idea of a Total Recall remake is actually the better idea than the newer Clash of the Titans, and certainly Wrath of the Titans. It should be interesting to see how the film makers can reinterpret the movie with updated technology and effects. Many science fiction movie classics were limited by lack of technology. Whether this goes the way of the over zealously edited Star Wars movies is still left up in the air. If executed well, this remake would provide a wonderful adventure in to the mind. It is likely that this will end up as just another awful remake, but this remake at least seems to have something of a chance. http://www.videodetective.com/movies/death-at-a-funeral/835820 Hopefully this will be the type of remake that this becomes. While not quite as good as the original, this remake did do the older film justice and maintained a lot of the tone.

FBSHarrigan yes. i am a fan of reimaginings and i think it's fair enough that every remake coincides with a technological development in cinema. it may even be possible that johnny nmemonic could have been a good film had it not been made with the crappest, borderline obselete lame a*s cyberpunked production values in history. i think too often people are merely criticising the cyclical nature of mainstream cinema when they whinge whinge about a director making something fresh again
