Transformers 3 set for 1 July 2011

And Thor shifts again!

It’s official: blockbuster release dates have become movie news, with word that Transformers 3 will arrive on our screens on 1 July 2011.

In these days of Twitter, you have to wonder whether film news releases will eventually just become one, long rambling account of every aspect of production: “Day 3: Michael Bay takes a ginormous poo.”

Still, for those of you pencilling dates and figuring out which movies you’ll be watching in, oh, two years, it’s useful info.

Before you get too excited, none of the regular Transformers team – Bay, Shia LaBeouf or Megan Fox – have signed on for the third instalment, though you can bet Paramount will be offering them all lucrative deals to stick around for at least one more outing.

Oh, and if you’re keeping count of other Paramount pics, Thor has shifted yet again, after moving from 2010 to 2011. The film will now open on 20 May 2011, to avoid stepping on Captain America’s dainty toes.

Next week, Transformers 53 is announced as “staking out” the day before the sun goes nova.
